Applying for a visa in China and Mongolia

You can now apply for most visas online in ImmiAccount. This is the preferred and most efficient way to apply.

If you reside in China or Mongolia, please refer to the following information before submitting your application:

IMPORTANT: You should apply for your visa well in advance of your intended travel date.

Check the current global visa processing times and ensure you leave sufficient time for processing of your application. We recommend that you do not finalise your travel arrangements until you have a valid visa to travel to Australia. We will not be liable for any financial loss incurred by travellers whose visa application was finalised later than expected, or where an application is not successful.

·  Call the Home Affairs Global Service Centre number in Australia on +61 2 6196 0196, open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (local time).
·  Contact Home Affairs in China online using the Australian Immigration Enquiry form. Select the overseas post as China (Beijing, Guangzhou or Shanghai).

If your query is complex and requires us to access your details you can contact the Global Service Centre (GSC). Contact us (homeaffairs.gov.au).

When you call the GSC, select option 6 to engage a TIS interpreter in your language

When we contact you

If you have applied for a visa, you may receive a phone call from the Department of Home Affairs to ask for  more information. This phone call may be outside normal Australian business hours and could come from any office in the world. Our staff will always identify themselves before they ask you for any information.

Our officers will never ask for your:

  • credit card information
  • banking details
  • mmiAccount password.
