Family Eligibility (Dependants)

1. Can I bring my family to Australia with me while I study?
Family members of students that are subjected to Assessment Level 3 & Assessment Level 4 and who are studying 12 months or less are not eligible. Students studying longer than 12 months can nominate their family members to accompany them to Australia on the same application form. You will not need to pay an additional visa application charge if applying on the one form.

You will need to provide evidence of your relationship. Family members are limited to:

• Spouse; and
• Financially dependent children.

2. Does my spouse have to lodge a separate application?
No. If you lodge on the same application form, only one visa application charge (VAC) is required. If you lodge separately, a VAC for each application is required.

3. Does a family member who is dependent on the student visa holder require a nomination form from the student in Australia?
Yes. A Form 919 Nomination of Student Dependants must be completed by the student. The form must then be sent directly to the dependant in Mongolia, who should attach it to their Form 157A Student Visa Application. The Form 919 is not to be given to DIAC in Australia or given separately to the Australian Embassy.
