The Australian Embassy is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons (Chinese nationals only) to fill:

  • 2 positions of full-time Senior Research and Program Officer Level 7. Annual remuneration range of the positions is approximately Rmb134,837.

Applications must have graduated from college for at least one year.

Duty Statement

Post: BEIJING Level: LE 7

2 Positions as Senior Research and Program Officer (Level 7)

  1. Arrange logistical support for Australian delegations to China, including Ministers and senior officials’: organise and coordinate meetings and transport, and create a programme booklet for delegation members and Embassy staff. Assist Australian government departments hosting senior Chinese delegations to Australia.
     
  2. Liaise at appropriate levels with Chinese ministries and official organisations, distribute correspondence and information, and make appointments as directed by relevant Embassy staff.
     
  3. Using Chinese and English sources, provide research support and prepare research papers/cables on matters of interest to the Embassy by collecting, analysing and evaluating information on assigned political and economic issues.
     
  4. Provide interpretation/translation support on political and economic issues for Embassy staff.
     
  5. Provide administrative and other support to the political and economic sections as directed.
     
  6. Relieve other positions in the RVU during staff absences.

 


SELECTION CRITERIA

Senior Research and Program Officer
(Australian Embassy, Research and Visits Unit)


A. Tertiary qualifications and ability to communicate effectively (orally and written) in both English and Mandarin essential.

B. Superior proficiency in both English and Mandarin essential. Demonstrated ability to undertake interpreting and translation tasks (English-Chinese and Chinese-English)

C. Good understanding of China’s political and economic environment and Australia’s interests in the region. Demonstrated interest in international relations and economics.

D. Ability to prioritise a busy workload, work under pressure and to deadlines with great attention to detail. Flexibility, adaptability and initiative.

E. Demonstrated ability to undertake research and produce high quality analytical reports on issues of interest to the economic and political sections.

F. General appreciation of the environment and operational context in which the functions of an Embassy are conducted.

G. High degree of computer literacy in Microsoft software, particularly Word, Excel, and Access database and internet-based research. Skills in database design desirable but not essential.

H. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
