The Embassy of Australia is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified person (Chinese Nationals only) to fill the position of full-time Passport & Consular Officer with Australian Embassy Beijing. The position will be offered at LE6 level. Annual remuneration for this position is approximately RMB121,328.

Consular Passport Officer (Level LE6)
As a member of the consular and passports team at the Australian Embassy and in accordance with Australian Government policy and procedures,
1. Provide timely and courteous assistance to Australian citizens via telephone, e-mail or face to face. Examples of assistance include passport enquiries/applications, Notarial Acts (witnessing signatures, certifying true copies etc), Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage, adoption, etc.
2. Assist the Consular Manager as required with individual consular cases following relevant policy and legislation, such as the Australian Consular Handbook and the Privacy Act. Duties include liaising with Australian citizens, negotiating with Chinese authorities, visiting clients in hospital or detention as required and maintaining accurate records of assistance provided. Some travel within China is required on a regular basis.
3. Assist to issue passports to Australian citizens in a timely manner and in accordance with the Passports Act and Passports Instructions. Tasks include responding to enquiries, client interviews, vetting and scanning passport applications, liaising with the Passport Office in Australia, issuing emergency passports and maintaining a register of issued passports.
4. Liaise at appropriate levels with Chinese organisations and officials relevant to the consular functions of the Embassy, and act as an advocate for the interests of the Australian Embassy and Australian citizens.
5. Translate various documents sent to/from various Chinese organisations or other missions in relation to consular issues.
6. As a Sub Cashier, collect appropriate fees for consular/passport services provided.
SELECTION CRITERIA
A. Demonstrated capacity to undertake clerical/administrative duties using computerised systems, to manage a busy workload efficiently and accurately, to display time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
B. Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality services to clients, both within the Embassy and outside, ensuring that relevant performance benchmarks are met.
C. Demonstrated capacity to communicate to a high level orally and in writing, in English and Mandarin, including an ability to perform accurate translations of written documents when required.
D. Demonstrated capacity to be flexible and adaptable, including in high pressure situations, to respond to challenges, and to work productively in a team environment.
E. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply relevant legislative and policy guidelines, particularly as they apply to the Job Description.
