Victorian State Election

Saturday 27 November 2010

The Victorian state election will be held on Saturday 27 November 2010. If you are enrolled to vote for an electorate in Victoria, and you will be out of Australia on polling day, you may submit a pre-poll vote either in-person at the Australian Embassy in Beijing or via a postal vote.

Enrolment

Enrolment for the 2010 Victorian state election closes at 8:00pm on Tuesday 9 November 2010. For information on how to enrol please see the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website at: http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/Enrol/enrol-forms.html

Please note the Australian Embassy Beijing cannot process an application for enrolment - you must apply directly to the Victorian Electoral Commission.

Voting in Person

Facilities to submit a pre-poll vote in person will be available at the Australian Embassy in Beijing during business hours from Monday 15 November to Friday 26 November 2010. Please note on Election Day, Saturday 27 November 2010, the Australian Embassy will not be open for voting.

Please also note that voting facilities will not be available at the Australian Consulates-General in Shanghai or Guangzhou. Australians living in these regions who wish to vote will need to either visit Beijing or apply for a postal vote.

Postal Voting

Victorian residents unable to visit the Australian Embassy in person may cast a vote by post. You must apply for a postal vote in order to have ballot papers sent to you. Postal vote application forms and instructions for submitting a postal vote are available from the VEC website: http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/files/P454E-PostalVoteApplication-ISandOS.pdf

Completed postal vote application forms must be returned to the Australian Embassy by Thursday 25 November 2010. However given lengthy postal delivery times to some areas of China, you should complete and mail them as early as possible to allow time for ballot papers to be posted to you prior to election day.
