Opening of New Exhibition
Constructed Landscapes: Australian connections
The Australian Embassy in Beijing, together with China Art Projects (CAP) and ME Photo Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of an innovative exhibition titled constructed landscapes: Australian connections. Curated by CAP and opening at the ME Photo Gallery in 798 on 19 June 2010, the exhibition is set to tour to Australia later in the year.
The artists all have association with both Australia and China: Huang Xu and Tony Scott; Jayne Dyer; Hu Qinwu; Anne Graham and Allan Chawner. The works in the exhibition are responses by these artists, at different levels of engagement, with the landscape of China or a psychological landscape of the mind.
The physical and social landscape of China is re-forming at an unprecedented rate. Traditional and new economic and political practices collide - to impact dramatically on the lives of people. constructed landscapes’ works interpret these issues and situations by constructing alternative readings of reality using irony, wit and sardonic humour.
The exhibition will form part of the larger program of cultural events associated with Imagine Australia, the Year of Australian Culture in China, 2010-2011.
