AUSTRALIAN COMPANY DELIVERS WORLD’S LARGEST OUTDOOR MULTI-MEDIA DISPLAY FOR EXPO 2010 SHANGHAI
Thanks to the talent of an Australian company, Shanghai exploded into a blaze of colour last weekend with the official launch of Expo 2010, and the largest outdoor multi-media display in history.
Watched by President Hu Jintao and a host of VIPs from all over the world, the spectacular Outdoor Opening Ceremony showcased creativity and technology never before seen. What many did not know, however, is that the Ceremony was designed and produced for Expo by Australian company David Atkins Enterprises (DAE). DAE has delivered numerous global events, including Official Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, the Doha 2006 Asian Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The half-hour outdoor spectacular featured lights, lasers, LED graphics, fountains, boats, music and fireworks along a 3.4km stretch of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai. Inspiring musical effects accompanied the show, also featuring music by Australian modern dance music composer Peewee Ferris.
“This magnificent event again demonstrates Australia’s strong capabilities in cutting-edge technology and artistic design”, said Australian Ambassador Dr Geoff Raby. “We are delighted an Australian company was selected as the foreign producer of the outdoor ceremony, generating another successful commercial and artistic collaboration between Australia and China”.
“Australia’s cultural links with China have never been stronger”, Dr Raby said, “and we will continue to celebrate this with the launch of Imagine Australia - an exciting Year of Australian Culture in China - in a few short weeks”. Imagine Australia is jointly supported by the Australian and Chinese Governments and will be the two countries’ most significant bilateral cultural initiative to date.
