OFFICE MANAGER/RESEARCHER

The position currently entails part time work of 30 hrs/week although there is the possibility of the position becoming full-time. The position would be for a period of 12 months, commencing in September 2010.

The Office Manager/Researcher is required to provide general administrative (including budgetary) support to the Senior Australian Treasury Representative and the Treasury post in general. An important part of the role is to monitor economic developments in China, including through the Chinese media, and to produce research and analysis on such developments.

Selection criteria

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

· significant output management skills. He/she must be reliable and able to plan, organise, schedule and prioritise their own output, the output of others and to contribute to team output.

· experience, or ability to quickly acquire the necessary skills, in budget management/monitoring.
 

· conceptual and analytical skills and strong research capability. Sound knowledge of economic concepts is required and preferably a strong economics qualification.
 

· strong communication skills. He/she should be able to write effectively and succinctly in English. In relation to oral communication, he/she should have good listening skills, be able to present information clearly and succinctly in English and be able to liaise effectively with a range of people. The ability to speak Mandarin would be an advantage but is not essential.
 

· experienced in using computer applications, Word and Excel. He/she should also be an experienced user of the Internet and database systems.
 

· general appreciation of Australia’s interest in China and the region.

· good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively and inclusively with other team members and colleagues. He/she should also be able to demonstrate initiative, flexibility and adaptability.

The applicant should also have an Australian government security clearance at the highly protected level or be in a position to obtain such clearance quickly.
