The Embassy of Australia is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified person (Chinese Nationals only) to fill the position of full-time Media and Research Officer (Education, Science and Research) with Australian Embassy Beijing. The position will be offered at LE6 level. Annual remuneration for this position is approximately RMB153,481.14. (plus employer social security payments and DSB contributions).

Job Description

Media

Within a small team, take the lead in developing an effective media and promotion strategy covering education and science which includes:

1. Liaison with the Chinese media, develop and implement the section’s media strategy.

2. Manage the AEI China Weibo and the Education and Science page of the Australian Embassy website. Produce Education and Science China eNewsletter. Manage media contact data and distribution list.

3. Develop relationships and interact/network with relevant media representatives around China and build ability to influence them.

4. Prepare written responses to interview questions and draft media reports on request.

Research

5. Monitor media and other sources for information reports on Chinese education statistics, policies and regulatory developments and prepare regular reports and commentary on key issues affecting Australian education interests in China.

6. Prepare draft reports and updates for the AEI Website Portal www.aei.dest.gov.au on significant education, science and research issues and developments in China.

7. Translate and analyse Chinese language statements and reports issued by Chinese government and other education agencies in China.

8. Undertake & support other research projects, draft briefings and prepare speeches on request.

9. Monitor and report on Australia-China cooperative education activities.

10. Where required, provide translation and interpreting support, and provide support for AEI functions and delegation visits and other activities


Selection Criteria

Essential

1. Written and oral bilingual communication skills of a high order, including fluency in Chinese and English, and the ability to translate and interpret accurately
2. Ability to produce detailed and accurate work in a timely manner, with limited supervision
3. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy cross-cultural team environment
4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Chinese education, science and research system policies and trends
5. Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, publishing and video software
6. Ability to set priorities and perform under pressure. Attention to detail
7. Tertiary qualification

Desirable

8. Overseas or international experience (ideally Australia)
9. Knowledge and experience of working with Chinese media.
10. Knowledge and understanding of the Australian education and training system
