Expatriate LE 6 Quality Assurance Officer (Part Time)

The Embassy of Australia is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Expatriate Quality Assurance Officer at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The position requires excellent written and oral English language skills and will be offered at the Expatriate LE6 level. Annual salary of this position is approximately CNY140,904. The position is a part-time position (hours are negotiatioble, but approximately 20 hours per week) and is open to those who hold, or are able to obtain, an Australian Security Clearance only. The successful applicant must be available to commence in the role immediately (by Monday 10 December 2012 at the latest). Expatriate LE6 – Quality Assurance Officer (Part Time), Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), Australian Embassy Beijing – Position Number: 9008

Selection Criteria:

1. Has highly developed written and spoken English language skills and well developed relationship management and liaison skills, particularly in relation to sensitive issues or matters requiring discretion.

2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment but with very limited supervision, demonstrate initiative, respond to priorities and meet deadlines.

3. Demonstrated ability to undertake detailed interrogation of records using a computer system, including where cross-checking across a range of systems is required.

4. Has, or has an ability to quickly obtain, a sound understanding of DIAC legislation and policy and an ability to interpret and apply both in relation to making decisions on applications for entry to Australia, including more complex applications.

5. Has, or has an ability to quickly obtain, a sound understanding of the key aspects of quality assurance and fraud control procedures.

6. Holds, or is able to obtain, an Australian Security Clearance.

Desirable Criteria:

Duty Statement:

 Under limited direction undertake quality assurance checking of visa processing and decision making at the three China posts (Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou) using a range of computerised DIAC systems and examination of hard-copy applications.

 Working within a broader DIAC China team, promote quality decision making in relation to applications for entry to Australia by providing evidence based recommendations for improved processing procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and better alignment with local fraud control plans and principles of efficient processing.

 Appropriately escalate issues of concern to DIAC management at the relevant post in line with agreed escalation procedures.

 Organise workloads to complete allocated tasks in a timely manner.

 Participate in the work of other DIAC teams in the Embassy as requested.
