Vacancy – Research Officer, DAFF (Full-time), LE7


The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is looking for a motivated person to fill the position of Research Officer reporting to the Counsellor Agriculture Policy in the Beijing Office. The position is open to suitably qualified Chinese nationals only and is to be filled on a full-time basis. The annual salary for an LE7 position is RMB134, 838.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Project Officer

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND FORESTRY


Post: BEIJING Level: LE7

Position No: 10133

 

1. Using Chinese and English sources; provide research support on matters relating to Australian-China agricultural trade by collecting, analysing and evaluating information.

2. Provide interpretation/translation support on agriculture issues, often with tight deadlines.

3. Under supervision provide bilingual administrative support to the Counsellor (Agriculture) including liaising at appropriate levels with Chinese ministries and official organisations, distribute correspondence and information, and make appointments as directed.

4. Under general direction of the Counsellor (Agriculture), assist in responding to enquiries and calls on issues such as bilateral agricultural trade and import/export administration and requirements.

5. Assist with the preparation and conduct of programs for visiting government officials and Australian business representatives.

6. Undertake research tasks, scan newspapers and assist with particular projects and ad hoc tasks.

7. Provide assistance with other administrative matters as required.

1. Demonstrated ability to manage a busy workload with competing priorities, tight deadlines and limited supervision while producing detailed and accurate work.

2. Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.

3. Written and oral Chinese and English bilingual communication skills of a high order, including demonstrated proficiency in translation and interpretation in a professional environment.

4. Ability to be flexible and adaptable as well as showing initiative and sound judgment.

5. Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise at a high level with senior representatives of government and industry.

6. Demonstrated competence in the use of computer programs for word processing, accounting, email, internet-based research and presentations.

7. Demonstrated experience and skills in office administration.

8. Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to the agriculture and biosecurity relationship between Australia and China.

9. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline desirable.
