Can I marry at the Embassy?

No.

What do I need to get married in China ?

The first step to take when you decide you want to get married in China is to contact the local marriage office for their requirements. Note: requirements vary between provincial marriages offices in China .

Can I get a Single Status Certificate from the Embassy?

No. The certificate can be obtained by mail from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the state in which you were resident in Australia .

I have already obtained the Australian Certificate of Single Status. However, the local marriage office does not recognise it as it was issued by the State Office instead of the National Government. What should I do?

You will need to confirm with the local marriage office exactly what they require.

•  If they require your Australian Certificate of Single Status to be certified/authorised by the Chinese Embassy / Consulates in Australia , you will need to ask your family or friends in Australia to take this certificate and relevant documents to the Chinese Embassy/Consulates for the certifying/authorising.

•  If they require your Australian Certificate of Single Status to be certified/authorised by the Australian Embassy in China , you will need to bring this certificate and your passport to us and we will certify the certificate on the same day. (Please note: The Embassy does not provide translation services).

•  If they require the Australian Embassy to issue you another certificate to confirm your current marital status, you may need to apply for a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI).

How do I apply for a visa to take my partner to Australia ?
