VACANCY - Short Term Position
Senior Research and Program Officer, Industry

(Approximately 5 months)

 

The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Australian Embassy Beijing is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Senior Research and Program Officer on a temporary basis for a minimum of five months and a maximum of 12 months. The position will be offered at the LE8 level.

Duty Statement


Post: BEIJING

Level: LE8

Senior Research and Program Officer PN:10608


1. Undertake research and analysis and prepare reports and input for briefing on topics relevant to the department, particularly resources and energy issues.

2. Support cooperation between Australia and China in resources and energy projects and meetings. Areas of focus include but are not limited to ongoing collaboration under the Bilateral Dialogue on Resources and Energy Cooperation, Joint Coordination Group on Clean Coal Technology, the G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group, energy and mining related work under APEC, and resources and energy sector investment promotion activities..

3. Develop sound working relationships with Chinese ministries, corporations and other official organisations, distribute correspondence and information, and make appointments with them as directed, especially in issues related to resources, energy, environment and climate change.

4. Arrange and supervise logistical support for Ministers’, senior officials’ and other delegations from Australia, including organising and coordinating meetings, car movements, and creating programme booklets for delegation members and Embassy staff. Assist with programs for Chinese delegations to Australia.

5. Work closely with other officers in the Industry team and the Research and Visits Unit to manage workflow. Provide administrative and other support as directed.

 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

 

1. Tertiary qualifications and highly developed ability to communicate (orally and written) in English. Mandarin skills are desirable but not essential.

2. Well-developed knowledge of Australian resources and energy policies and government processes. Understanding of China’s political and economic environment, and knowledge of China’s resources and energy sectors, are desirable.

3. Ability to undertake research, collect information and produce high quality analytical reports on relevant topics.

4. Ability to prioritise a busy workload, work under pressure and to deadlines with great attention to detail. Flexibility, adaptability and initiative, and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.

5. Sound competence in using Microsoft software, particularly Word and Excel, databases and internet-based research.
