The AVAC opened in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Monday 3 December 2012.
The AVAC significantly improves client service for Mongolian residents wishing to lodge Australian visa applications.
From the 1st of January 2013, the AVAC will also accept Citizenship applications.
Clients in Mongolia will now be able to lodge their visa applications directly with the AVAC in Ulaanbaatar and pay the relevant application fees in local Mongolian currency. This will save considerable time and cost for clients.
The AVAC will provide a service for electronic submission of applications to DIBP and as a result processing times for applications from Mongolian residents are expected to decrease. The AVAC will also provide extended opening hours, a telephone enquiry service and an on-line tracking service for clients to check the status of their application.
The AVAC in Ulaanbaatar is one of a network of Visa Application Centres introduced globally by the DIBP in its commitment to client service excellence.
A worldwide company, VFS Global, has been selected to operate the AVAC on behalf of DIBP. VFS Global already operates visa application centres for a number of other countries in Mongolia including Canada and Italy.
The AVAC will not act as a visa processing centre. All applications will be assessed and decided by DIBP in Beijing or Shanghai. Staff in the AVAC will have no involvement in the decision making process or have any knowledge of the application outcome.
