AFP Beijing Post hosts gala dinner to celebrate law enforcement cooperation
2012 is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Australia-China diplomatic relations. In late November, AFP Beijing Post hosted a gala function to celebrate the anniversary with the theme of the function being recognition of AFP and Chinese law enforcement agencies’ relationship.
The function was co-hosted by AFP Commander Sue Thomas and Australia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Her Excellency Frances Adamson. All six AFP officers posted within China attended the event along with fifty attendees from various Chinese law enforcement agencies located within Beijing, Shanghai and Zhejiang as well as colleagues from the Australian Embassy in Beijing.
HE Ambassador Adamson, said in her official speech that the AFP and each Chinese agency has over the years, worked hard to maintain close ties and because of this, there is a deep, sustained and purposeful collaboration between the AFP and Chinese law enforcement agencies.
A highlight of the dinner was the acceptance of an AFP invitation, by internationally acclaimed Chinese actor, Mr Jackie Chan, to record a short video message which was played by the AFP on the evening. Mr Chan expressed his thanks to the AFP and Chinese police for their great efforts and contribution in combating transnational crime and provided a little humour at the end of the clip.
The evening was a great success and all guests signed an AFP commemorative board that will be framed and placed in the Australian Embassy.
