Vacancy - Payments Officer (LE3)

 

The Australian Embassy Beijing seeks applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Payments Officer (LE3) with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Selection Criteria

 

Applicants should address all four of the selection criteria below, clearly outlining their claims and specific experience that makes them suitable for this position (maximum 2 pages). 

 

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of accounting software, particularly SAP would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out accounting procedures using computerized systems, and prepare and maintain records within such systems and report on same.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectivity orally and in writing, in English and Mandarin.
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, adaptability, ability to operate in a high workload environment and work with minimum supervision.

About the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

 

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

 

About the position

This position is responsible for managing and processing payments for the mission.

 

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Under general direction undertake clerical/administrative work in the Accounts Section
  • Within guidelines apply the rules, regulations, instructions and procedures relating to the Collector of Public Moneys function.
  • Organise and prioritise workloads so as to complete given projects and assignments in a timely manner, manage staff and meet deadlines.
  • Issue receipts for all public money collected, including from sub-collectors.
  • Raise DANs in SAP against staff members and other agencies.  Process the payment of DANs, including the issuing of receipts, entry into SAP and allocation.
  • Conduct the follow up of outstanding DANs.
  • Reconcile and process long distance telephone bills for payment, including raising DANs for private contributions.
  • Banking on a roster system.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in the use of accounting software, particularly SAP, would be an advantage
  • Ability to understand and carry out accounting procedures using computerized systems, and prepare and maintain records within such systems and report on same.
  • An awareness of the Australian Government acts, regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English and Mandarin.
