THE ROLE

This position, located at the Australian Embassy in Beijing, will provide advice and services to Australian companies exploring business opportunities in Beijing and North China. This role will focus on the agribusiness sector, including related technology, services, innovation and investment, and will work under guidance from the Trade Commissioner, and with colleagues from across the Austrade network.

In this role, you will:

>  Service Australian organisations, helping them do business in the China market. Your focus will be on the agribusiness sector and related technology, services, innovation and investment. You may also be required to support projects from a wide range of sectors.

> Research, identify and capture opportunities to develop Australian exports to the China market, in particular agribusiness and related opportunities, in line with Austrade’s corporate objectives.

> Maintain existing relationships with government and industry allies, and develop new contacts and networks to understand China market opportunities for Australian companies, particularly in the agribusiness and agritech sector.

> Contribute to development and implementation North China and agribusiness industry team business plans.

> Efficiently manage a changing workload and large numbers of clients/customers to deliver quality work on time and budget.

> Plan and implement business-matching activities such as trade displays, investor events and market visits, under guidance from your manager.

> Follow guidelines to efficiently use customer relationship management systems and other databases, and share knowledge with co-workers using these systems.

> Maintain Austrade standards and implement its policies including workplace diversity, ethical practice, occupational health and safety principles and compliance with audit requirements

> Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade business systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.

> Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice and development opportunities.

> Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service (APS) Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

There are six particular aspects we will consider when looking for successful candidate for this role, namely:

1. Relevant tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years’ experience in a business development or related role, preferably in international or foreign government organisations.

2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of international trade, including an understanding of Australia’s competitive advantage and government policies. Experience in agribusiness, agritech, food and beverage sector and/or in international trade will be highly regarded.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of the Chinese market, especially potential opportunities in North China, and ability to develop strong business networks.

4. Proven ability to think analytically and take a practical approach to problem solving.

5. Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to successfully represent Australia and Austrade and the capacity to negotiate and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Fluent in written and spoken English and standard Chinese.

6. Experience working independently in a small team environment to deliver business outcomes. Willingness to travel if required.

This is a locally-engaged position governed by China labour law and Austrade’s Overseas Engaged Employees Terms and Conditions of Employment China.
