Austrade Beijing office has an exciting job opportunity as an Senior Investment Manager.

This role is a key investment promotion role to attract and facilitate investment into Australia by companies based in North China.

Working as part of Austrade China investment team, this hands-on role requires strong relationship management skills and a practical understanding of international investment decision-making.

This position requires a highly motivated senior team member with experience in business development, preferably in an international environment.

Duties:

• Promote Australia as an investment destination to China based companies through a targeted and systematic approach that matches local investor interests with Australian opportunities and capabilities, particularly in sectors targeted under the Australian Government’s national investment priorities.

• Manage and develop potential investors in key sectors where Australia offers investment opportunities, then build and manage relationships to understand and address investors’ decision drivers and explain how Australia can meet these needs

• Apply strategic thought to identify and report issues or barriers to investment to the Australian government and to propose innovative solutions which will increase results.

• Plan, coordinate and implement business matching activities such as investor events, trade displays and market visits, including by government Ministers and officials.

• Contribute input to development and implementation of post and organisational business plans.

• Work effectively within a dynamic small team environment operating under management supervision from the Senior Trade Commissioner, Beijing and strategic direction from the Senior Investment Commissioner Greater China.

• Represent Austrade by delivering presentations at high profile business events to promote the advantages of Australia as a location for investment and trade partner.

• Foster linkages with key government officials and allies in the post in support of enhancing market access, in accordance with post business and inwards investment plans.

• Utilise internal databases and knowledge management systems to support work practices. Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade business systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.

• Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade by sharing knowledge, information and insight and by embracing opportunities for best practice and personal professional development.

• Maintain Austrade standards and policies, including diversity in the workplace, ethical practice and occupational health and safety principles and compliance with audit requirements.

• Work collaboratively within the Austrade network and with external stakeholders to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service (APS) Values and Code of Conduct and work health & safety principles.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated superior understanding and knowledge of investment attraction and promotion and international financial investment decision making processes.

2. Demonstrated track record of achieving results in a commercial environment and the ability to apply this experience to achieve investment results.

3. Capacity to input into leadership of the team, providing a clearly articulated strategic direction and managing towards the achievement of stretch business targets in a public sector environment

4. Demonstrated experience in client relationship management encompassing client identification, relationship building and solution selling, as well as proven ability to identify and utilise a senior business network to help achieve results preferably in an international context.

5. Strategic and analytical skills and proven problem solving abilities.

6. Experience in business planning and execution of business plans within a team environment.

7. Excellent presentation and communication skills in both English and Chinese (includes interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and business writing skills).
